YES to LRT, No to LRT Passing Through Residential Area of SS14 Subang Jaya

SUBANG Jaya residents, especially those living in SS14 are ready to fight the proposed LRT route which proposes to run across the front of their houses.

Many have expressed their intentions to pool funds and technical expertise together to challenge the plan which will threaten the tranquility of their neighbourhood.

While they welcome the move to have the LRT come into Subang Jaya and USJ, residents in this corner of the suburb, some of whom have made this their home since 1979, are up in arms over the plans to have the LRT line cutting across the residential area.

More than 200 residents, joined by other residents from USJ, had showed up for a mini-public briefing earlier this year to get a better idea of what was proposed in the Subang Jaya draft local plan.

Contents of the Draft Local Plan had revealed a route (which is now confirmed) that starts from the present KTM Komuter Station, making its way down Persiaran Jengka before traversing over the monsoon drain along Jalan SS 14/7, Jalan SS 14/8 Jalan SS 14/5J and Jalan SS 14/6M.

The sentiments are obvious. Residents want to be involved in the planning of the public transportation system if it were to be implemented in the municipality.

Basri Kahar, a resident said “I would like to suggest that the LRT station at SS 14 be shifted right to the end of Persiaran Jengka bordering the Kesas Highway , since it's a no through road. From there it can continue it's journey to Summit -USJ.”
“That will be better option , rather than have it running above the monsoon drain, that might cause flooding.”

He said parking areas should not be created in the immediate here due it's proximity to Kesas Highway.

“Just a lay by for dropping and picking up passenger is suffiient, as not to create unnecessary blokage. There are rows of shophouses that might benefit from this route too,” he added.

Another resident who wants only be known as Ng, who had just bought and moved into his semi-detached house along the road a year ago, was dismayed when he heard that the LRT was coming through.

“What will become of our home with the LRT just running outside our house?” he said.

More details and consultation with residents should be forthcoming from Syarikat Prasarana Sdn. Bhd., the company appointed by the Federal Government to build the Kelana Jaya LRT extension which will see it run from Kelana Jaya to Subang Jaya and USJ before it goes towards Putra Heights.
