ARE YOU EATING AT THE RIGHT PLACE?

A surprise check on eateries in SS15 one weekday night revealed practices and operations which left many of the Subang Jaya Municipal Council officers in disbelieve.
Unattended exposed food, unhygienic food preparation, dirty premises, improper disposal of food waste and dozens of rats and unimaginable populations of cockroaches greeted the night inspectors from MPSJ’s health unit together with their counterparts from the licensing, enforcement and building units.
Led by MPSJ councilor Theresa Ratnam Thong, the three-hour check took the team from Asia Café, McDonald’s, Pelita Restaurant and many more restaurants and cafes.
According to MPSJ’s public relations officer Ahmad Faizal Azhar, several of the outlets were issued notices to clean up while others received warnings.
At a Chinese restaurant which was closed for the night, huge fat rats were seen scampering around on the kitchen and swarms of cockroaches were seen all around the floor and walls.
During the checks, many foreigners manning the stalls, believed to be without proper work permits, were seen hastily abandoning their stalls when MPSJ officers first arrived.
With so much happening around and the dirty conditions many of such eateries are operating under, there is no doubt a gastronomic disaster is waiting to occur.
