Pit Your Artistic Skills

Come 19th July, creative young minds around Subang Jaya will gather at the 14th Subang Jaya Children’s Art Contest being held at The Summit USJ.
The contest is a joint effort by the members of the Kawasan Rukun Tetangga of USJ2/USJ6 in collaboration with Jabatan Perpaduan Negara dan Intergrasi Nasional, and has received sponsorship from various sources including stationery manufacturer PENTEL, Nestle Products, Petronas Dagangan, Jordan, and the ADUN of Subang Jaya Hannah Yeoh.
The contest is aimed at promoting community activities around the Subang vicinity, and thus is open exclusively residents and students of USJ and Subang Jaya only.
The competition will be open to children according to various age groups and categories ranging from category A which is for children aged 5 – 6 years, category B which is for children aged 7 – 9 years, category C which is for children aged 10 – 12 years, and category D which is open for participants aged anywhere until 17 years. There will also be a special category for foreigners should they wish to enter.
Kawasan Rukun Tentangga will also be inviting children from various orphanages and homes to take part in the competition. The homes that have been invited this year are the Compassion Home from Subang Jaya, RACTAR from Subang Jaya, and Agathian’s Shelter from Petaling Jaya.
Participants who enter will gain also exposure into the international scene, as most of the art entries entered will gain automatic entry into PENTEL’s International Art Contest, which has seen 77 medalists from the Subang Jaya Children’s Art Contest in the previous year.
Prizes for the competition will be valued at no less than RM900 in total and will allocate 13 prizes in total which come in the form of goodies and trophies. Also, a special prize will be awarded to the school in Subang Jaya that sends in the most participants.
For smooth running purposes, the number of spaces allocated for the competition will be limited to 500, so participants will be encouraged to join as early as possible to avoid disappointment.
The organizers hope that the contest will be able to instill creativity and emotional intelligence within the younger generation as well as to bring forth new talents that are waiting to be unearthed. On part of social values, the contest is also designed to promote interactivity between children of varying religions and races so as to inculcate unity and harmony for the benefit of society as a whole.
“I hope this event will enable children to express their ideas and also cultivate their imagination and creativity. These children are very talented and I really hope that we will be able to organize more events like this in the future,” said Ang How Chuan, Chairman of Kawasan Rukun Tetangga USJ2/USJ6.
Hannah said such events would be able to draw out more talent from around the community. “I hope to bear witness to such similar events in the future, and also to see more participation on the community’s behalf,” she said.
Those who love art and would like to build a closer community will be encouraged to make their way down to the 4th floor of Summit USJ on the 19th July to participate in the event.
