TWO HUNDRED TREES PLANTED
Residents show up to plant forest trees at Millennium Park in Subang Jaya

THE message communicated by residents during the tree planting at Millennium Park is clear.
"Let's green Subang Jaya!".
Armed with great enthusiasm and determination to help "seal" the deal to return the Park into a green area, more than 200 residents showed up to assist the Subang Jaya Municipal Council to plant the 200 forest trees.
Representatives of residents associations from Subang Jaya, USJ and even Bandar Sunway were present to show their support and to also dig in to plant the trees.
The trees, some as tall as 7metres, will mark the beginning of an initiative to green the whole of Subang Jaya, according to ADUN Subang Jaya Hannah Yeoh.
"I am glad to see residents from all over Subang Jaya, USJ and even Bandar Sunway showing up to help us in this event."
" Millennium Park is the best place for us to commemorate World Environment Day and from today on you will see green in this area," she said.
Hannah said more trees will be planted all over the municipality.
"Areas are being identified and plant trees, including fruit trees," she added.
Hannah thanked everyone, including representatives from the corporate sector who joined in the tree planting, while reminding the crowd that, "the trees will take time to grow. Thank you for showing your support although you know you won't benefit from it directly but your children will."
MPSJ deputy president Mohamad Yusoff Ghazali who was present to officiate the planting ceremony said the planting at Millennium Park would go through three phases.
"Phase 1 will be the planting of trees here today. Eighty percent of the trees are forest species. Phase 2 will see us putting in benches, rubbish bins and improving on the flooring."
"Phase 3 will be to light up the Park," he said.
Mohamad Yusoff said more trees need to be planted to make up the ratio of 2 trees to one resident.
"That would mean we need about 1 million trees for our 500,000 residents in the whole municipality," he said.
Residents were also joined by teams from HSBC, Starbucks and the Sime Darby Medical Centre who also dug in and enjoyed themselves planting trees at the Park.
Adults and children alike were also treated to nice iced coffee provided by Starbucks.
