Green Monuments of Subang Jaya

THIS coming weekend is an important weekend for the folks of Subang Jaya and surrounding areas. It’s the weekend when history is made in its own small and unique way.
It’s a weekend when many will converge and ‘change’ the landscape of the Millennium Park from concrete to greenery. It’s the weekend when we break the ‘chains’ of the mistake made at the turn of the century when that particular spot was turned into an ugly block of concrete.
I take my hat off to MPSJ president Dato’ Adnan Md Ikshan for making this daring and wise move to finally tear down the concrete façade of the Millennium Park and replacing it with towering trees.
I remember it was more than a year ago when the idea of planting towering forest giants in the area was first mooted to Dato’ Adnan. I remember saying, “Dato’, imagine planting forest trees that will one day be 100 feet tall. By then you and I won’t be around. But our children’s children will look at the towering trees and remember what we did for them to enjoy it.”
These words were repeated with ADUN Subang Jaya Hannah and she agreed that we should push for the Millennium Park to be the platform for changing the “greens-scape” of Subang Jaya.
That is precisely why this weekend is very important. It is not just because it is World Environment Day. It is not because it’s going to a huge event. IT IS because we are going to be planting the “seed” of tomorrow for our children’s children.
This first step for us is a giant step for our children. So don’t deprive them of the pleasure of coming out to plant the towering trees of tomorrow. Bring the whole family along and let them enjoy.
THANK YOU Sir, for making this weekend possible for all of Subang Jaya to derive a benefit from for many years to come.
Speaking of which, when was the last time anyone said Thank You to anyone who has done something good?
Do we say Thank You for waking up every morning and do we say Thank You at night before going to bed, for a good day we had?
Last weekend, a resident who showed up at the SS18 dialogue session caught everyone by surprise, even me. She said Thank You to the police in public, something which has become rare in our daily lives.
The words left everyone surprised as it sank in. It sank into me. I realized how we have forgotten to say such simple words to our loved ones; to the people we work with and also to people around us.
After reading this, please do try to say Thank You for the gift of sight to be able to see and read.
I leave you for this month with this quote I chanced upon:
Every time we remember to say "thank you", we experience nothing less than heaven on earth. -- Sarah Ban Breathnach
Have a good month ahead and HAPPY PLANTING this weekend!
