Muslims Disallowed from Working in Establishments Serving Alcohol

Five Muslims Booked

OWNERS of entertainment outlets and pubs may soon find another provision added into their licensing conditions for approval.

The Subang Jaya Municipal Council is considering the possibility of adding more provisions into licensing applications for these categories to forbid the employment of Muslim men and women in outlets which serve alcohol, according to council president Dato' Adnan Md Ikshan.

"We are considering adding more conditions into such licenses to compliment Syariah laws which forbid Muslims from working in establishments which require them to serve alcohol," he said during a raid on a pub in USJ21 over the weekend.

Adnan said licensing conditions would be reviewed to ensure establishments in Subang Jaya did not run foul of the Syariah laws.

During the weekend raid, JAIS officers arrested two Muslim men and three Muslim women for working in an establishment serving alcohol and also for serving the drinks.

JAIS head of Syariah Criminal Investigations Unit for Selangor Ahmad Tarnuzi who headed the operations said those booked will be charged under Section 18(2) of the Selangor Syariah Criminal Enactment 1995.

The five face a fine of not more than RM3,000 or two years jail or both.

Ahmad said the five would be allowed bail until their case was heard.
