BANDAR Sunway residents came armed! No! They didn't show up with revolvers or machine guns.
As early as 7.30am, residents young and "not so young" came armed with the enthusiasm to enjoy themselves at the Bandar Sunway-NST Family Day.
There was an air of festivity at the event which was filled with a fun walk for residents, line dancing, waitankung performance, indian self-defence demonstration, exhibitions by the police and MPSJ and much much more.
The broad smile on BSRA president Richard Leow's face told it all.
The turnout was more than expected and this was reflected in his speech when he said "the turnout for our event today is good and encouraging."
He said in the 15 years of organising such events, this was the first ever event which had such a good turnout.
"We have around 20 unprivileged persons with us today. We will be presenting them with items contributed by residents in Bandar Sunway," he said.
Richard expressed his hope the event would generate a sense of belonging among residents and they would also be motivated to join the association.
"Through you we can get things done and in a better way," he added.
ADUN Subang Jaya Hannah Yeoh who flagged off the fun walk earlier thanked the New Straits Times Group for organising the second such event in the community, the first being the USJ Residents Association Family Day.
"We see an increase in the participation of children in this event. That is encouraging as children are our future leaders," she said.
Hannah later pledged a contribution of RM5, 000 for the event.
