WHEN YOU HEAR A JINGLE.....................

by SJECHO
5 May 2009

THE next time you hear a jingle just right behind you be rest assured it’s not Santa Claus.
It’s our friendly neighbourhood Chief Inspector Sulaiman Baputty, the officer in charge of the SS17 Police Station.
Why is a jingle synonymous with Sulaiman?
Many may not have noticed but this man in blue has a rare and unique hobby – keeping keys and key chains all in a bundle.
Not many would carry their hobby along with them everywhere they go but Sulaiman does. He carries it everywhere and he even has the keys to his car and motorcycle in the bunch of almost 50 items.
“I have been collecting keys since 1999. The bunch I carry with me even includes keys which I no longer use.”
“I have my office and car keys here as well,” Sulaiman said.
The glitter in his eyes more than meets the eye on why he keeps them close to him all day long.
“My late wife’s car and car keys are still with me. She passed away in 2006 and keeping the car and the keys is my way of remembering her.”
“I put everything together so I won’t lose it,” he said, describing a time when someone tried to sneak it away from him but failed.
According to Sulaiman, even his locksmith friend was shocked to see the many keys and key chains he has in the bunch.
The bunch weighs almost 2kg.
“I have to be extra careful when riding my motorcycle over a road hump. The bump sometimes causes the key in the bunch to fall out from the ignition switch,” he adds.
When he walks, he holds them. When he needs to look for a particular key, he places the whole bunch on his palm.
How does he recognize so many keys? Sulaiman admits he marks them to make it easier for him to recognize them.
