Making Subang Jaya A Safe Place to Live In

ARE you one of those individuals living in fear of having your house
burgled or looking over your shoulder when walking along the street?
Is there a tingling fear that no matter what you do – installing the
most sophisticated locks and alarm systems – there’s no way to have a
peaceful slumber in the night or when you leave home for work?
How
about a new approach? How about working together with your neighbours
and the community to make Subang Jaya a “Safe Neighbourhood”?
Many
hands make lighter work and that’s exactly what the residents committee
(JKP Zone 1) has in mind when they launched the “Subang Jaya towards a
Safe Neighbourhood” campaign.
Going back to the basic principle –
know your neighbours and care for them, the campaign is focusing
efforts on Crime & Human Safety, Health Safety and Environment and
Traffic & Road Safety.
The key component of the campaign is
holding regular dialogues in each of the nine areas to discuss matters
relating to the theme with concerned residents. The residents will be
represented by the Area Action Groups (AAG) to help mobilize them in
activities and the campaign proper.
As part of the campaign, a
partnership with the police force will also be utilized to work
hand-in-hand with the RAKANCOP programme and to increase residents’
participation in Community Policing initiatives and Traffic Safety
Campaigns.
Speaking at the launch of the campaign at Sri Kuala
Lumpur last month, ADUN Subang Jaya Hannah Yeoh said it was important
for the community to work closely with the authorities to create a
safer and better environment for everyone.
The campaign was
launched by Subang Jaya Municipal Council president Dato’ Adnan Md
Ikshan and attended by Subang Jaya OCPD ACP Zainal Rashid, JKP Zone 1
chairman Theresa Ratnam Thong, representatives from MPSJ as well as the
police and Bomba, and representatives from the community.
