UNPRECEDENTED TURNOUT AT SS19/1 SAFETY AND COMMUNITY CAMPAIGN LAUNCH
by SJECHO5 March 2009

More than 500 residents show up to support initiative
SIRENS blared and there was a “chase”.
Most
of the 500 residents and guests who showed up for the SS19/1 Safety and
Community Campaign launch actually thought a crime had been committed
especially when two police cars swooped down the road in pursuit of two
men on a motorcycle.
Police revolvers were drawn and suspects were
pursued. After a short chase, suspects were pinned to the floor and
apprehended. A senior gentleman also went up to the police car,
probably wanting a piece of the action.
Even ADUN Subang Jaya Hannah
Yeoh (who later admitted her heart was thumping in excitement) was
caught by the surprise police demonstration on how to apprehend
suspects.
After all the excitement had died down, Hannah said Subang Jaya were a lucky lot.
“We
are the only residential area in the country that has a directory of
all the Chief Inspectors of the police stations available to us.”
“I would like to thank the police for making themselves accessible to the public this way,” she said.
Hannah
said crime such break-ins and robberies were at the top of the minds of
residents, adding that cooperation from residents was important if they
wanted to initiate plans to have a gated or guarded community.

“There
are many criteria to fulfill if you wish to head that direction. Your
first step is to get your residents association registered,” she said.
She
promised her office and the Subang Jaya Municipal Council will do all
that was needed to help residents achieve their goals in ensuring a
safe neighbourhood.
“I would also like to remind everyone that
safety is not only about crime. Dengue is a threat. Start spending 10
minutes of your Saturday to check on your surroundings to ensure that
you are not breeding mosquitoes.”
“Some of the issues can only be
achieved if there is cooperation from the Federal and State
authorities. I urge you, as residents, to push both the authorities to
work together for the common good of the community,” she added.
There
are 680 houses in the SS19/1 area and the present initiative to
establish a residents association is being led by their pro-tem
chairman Radin Nasirudin Munir with 16 committee members working with
him.
The initiative was mooted by members of the Al-Ikhlas Surau located nearby.
“We
now have 240 registered pro-tem members and the number is growing. We
plan to go house-to-house to get more residents on board,” Radin said.
Residents in the SS19/1 area who may wish to join this committee can contact Radin at 019-217 8034.
