USJ8 OCS meets residents at Community Policing gathering

Chief Inspector Loi Yew Lik (second from right in the foreground) leading the community policing meeting with residents.

IT was Chief Inspector Loi Yew Lik's first community policing meeting with USJ residents and businesses but he had everyone awed by the ease in which locks could be picked.

Loi who took charge of the USJ8 police station recently demonstrated to those attending the meeting how locks could be picked by burglars.

"Choose quality locks and not just any padlock. Burglars can pick your padlocks without damaging them within seconds," he said.

He said residents who owned luxury cars, especially the Mercedes Benz should be extra cautious this season.

"There's a rise in car thefts and we have noticed that the recent cases have been happening in USJ1."

"A Mercedes at a car wash was hijacked when the driver was getting into his car," he said, adding that there was a major interest in such car makes.

Loi advised residents to change their routine when going to banks.

"When you are withdrawing large sums of cash from the bank, avoid your routine time and route," he added.

Residents also should be on the lookout for foreigners who specialised in house break-ins.

"They drive around in a Toyota Camry (light blue or gold) and they target houses to break into," he said, adding that occurrences of house break-ins were more during rain.
