JUST hours after the launch of the "Subang Jaya Towards a Safe Neighbourhood" campaign in the township, the police stormed into action.

Acting on a tip-off from a resident who noticed people on the roof of his neighbour's house, a team from the SS17 police station were despatched to nab the suspects.

The first signs of a break-in were obvious when officers went into the house compound. They found one of  the window ajar and the grills broken.

While checking the house, the officers noticed someone on the roof outside.

Three officers climbed up the awnings behind the house and to their surprise, they found two suspects crouching in the darkness to avoid detection.

Both locals, one of them was 16 years old while the other was 27.

House owner Omar Johari who had rushed to the house said the under-aged suspect had come to the house during the day asking one of his workers where his employer was.

"They must have broken into another house before they came to mine. I found a plastic bag containing children's books which do not belong to me," he said.

Getting the suspects down from the roof was a precarious tasks for the policemen, who had to constantly watch their footing while also watching over the suspects.

According to the police, the suspects told them that they had come on foot from Sunway.

The suspects appeared calm but apprehensive as they were led into the awaiting police vehicles.

Chief Inspector Sulaiman Baputty, the officer in charge of the SS17 police station said the arrest of the duo was a major success and he was confident it would help solve a few earlier cases of house break-ins in the neighbourhood.
