“LONGKANG ISSUES STILL UNRESOLVED” IN SUBANG JAYA
It has been a great New Year. After the last leg of 2008 which bore bad
news, I was quite pessimistic about 2009. But a month now, it is indeed
a year that I can look forward to.
I just got back from a
holiday and much needed rest for a tired self. So with my freshened up
mind, I walked around my favourite haunts in Subang Jaya and thought to
myself. Maybe now, I will sharpen my tongue.
I clearly
remembered writing about the need for the councilors to look at the
daily issues we all faced. On of them were the uncovered drains or
missing/broken drain covers. Indeed, we have the councilors for a quite
a few months but pardon me, where are they?
Perhaps, they are
too busy and are REALLY working hard behind the scenes. Sure or not?
That is what I got when someone asked me if I ever know what these
councilors of Subang Jaya have been doing. I doubt myself trying to
make an excuse for them.
So, I have come to my personal
conclusion that the “long kang issues” of Subang Jaya remain
unresolved. When I recall what I have seen and read in the media, the
following came up. YB Hannah Yeoh is doing her part in helping the poor
and those who need most are in Angsana. YB Loh Gwo Burne is looking at
the plight of some issues in Kelana Jaya.
The residents
associations are active in community work. The MPSJ president has also
been actively vocal. The police stations are trying their best.
Councilors,
where are you? Maybe you have poor public relations skills and do not
engage the public nor engage the media to show what issues and when
will these be solved. Sadly, we did not elect you. You all got
appointed. So, to me as a Subang Jaya resident…. I question.
a. What have you been doing from the date of your appointment until now?
b. What are your plans for your area in 2009?
I also think SJ Echo should put the list of councilors in a box within the paper with their contact email and telephone numbers.
What
irks me now is the numerous “longkangs” remain uncovered. Some are in
very dark places. So what if an excuse crops up saying it was stolen.
Hey, I do not care. We pay taxes and this better gets fixed pronto.
Some
metal ones have been replaced with new concrete ones. I do hope the
concrete ones have rebar in them or they will collapse into the drain
with whatever atop it.
The problem is that why an issue so
obvious not fixed? I want the councilors to look into the “longkang”
covers and fix immediately. I am keeping time. Let us see if they
actually read SJEcho and if they have the passion to really serve the
community.
We as residents do not need to prove why we need the
“longkang”
issues fixed. The councilors must prove their worth. They must go down
to the people, to engage and to keep the community’s needs heard and
dealt with. Being highly invisible does not cut it.
There are
many missing drain covers with the most obvious ones with SS15, SS14,
Taipan, around all the open grounds in each Taman. The depth of each
drain is also very deep and in the dark even with ambient lighting, one
will surely fall in as the drain is not easily seen. Do we want a death
or any injury to happen before things are fixed?
I will want
to say one thing to the councilors. Take this as a challenge. Keep an
attitude of doing publicity and for goodness sake, do an open day for
the community to meet each of you in your area.
Take a leaf from
a young Subang Jayan lady, Hannah. She is up to date with her
information to the community on many issues and you can see these in
the media as well as in her blog.
Did we not look at the mirror again today? Do we like what we see?
Happy Chinese New Year to the folks of Subang Jaya!
