Shanghai Duck Flies into Subang

BnY Restaurant cooks up a storm with its new Shanghai Honey Braised Duck
THIS duck is not to be ignored.
For connoisiers, this Shanghainese styled-duck is almost like sent from the skies above, answering the many dreams of tasting “China” in our own home.
Served whole or half, the Shanghainese Honey Braised Duck came as a surprised when I got a call from BnY Restaurant informing me of their latest specialty.
Being a duck lover myself (normally roast duck), my immediate response was, “Can we photograph and eat it now?”
Photograph and eat, we did, the next day. According to the restaurant's manager and partner, Cao Lin, it takes two days for the chef to prepare the duck, which is marinated with herbs and honey before it is braised for almost four hours.
“Marination is the most important aspect. We marinate our ducks and only cook them when it is ordered.”
“This is to ensure our customers get the best,” she said, while serving us generous portions of the duck.

According to Lin, the sauce used to marinate the duck is home-made and compliments the texture of the meat.
“The herbs we use help bring out the true flavour of the duck,” she added.
The sweet thick sauce that accompanies the duck enhances the rich flavour of the meat.
Daily, BnY has between five to 10 ducks for diners.
“Each duck is about 2kg. The size of the bird is important. If the duck is too big, it is oily and won't be suitable for this dish,” she said.
Not a single piece of the duck was left at the end of the session. Every piece was cleaned to the bone.
Lin said the duck goes well with most of the other dishes BnY serves for lunch or dinner.
“As we only stock up a small number of ducks daily, it is good if diners call us in advance to check for availability or to reserve them,” she said.
Among the wide varieties available, house specialties include the unique Claypot Yee Mein Ching, Drunken Steam Prawns, Special Baked fish and Ma Lat Tau Foo – tastes and flavour not easily found elsewhere.
Whether lunch or dinner, the restaurant brings diners through a journey of wonderful tastes and delights.
The set lunches and dinners for 3 to 4 persons or 6 to 8 persons is really a value for money package.
The restaurant opens daily from 11am-3pm and 5.30pm-10pm. They are closed on Wednesdays.
BnY Restaurant is located at No. 29, Jalan SS 18/1B, Subang Jaya or call 03-56389623.
