MPSJ President Gives Thumbs Up to Community Effort to Start Composting

Efforts by the community in SS14 who took on the challenge of initiating the pilot project to turn their kitchen and garden discards into compost got the thumbs from the Subang Jaya Municipal Council.

It’s president Dato’ Adnan Md Ikshan who paid a visit to the site just two days after the launch of the pilot project was impressed by the set-up which consisted of three 660 litre composting bins.

Supported by MPSJ and funded by ADUN Subang Jaya Hannah Yeoh, the community composting project is the first of its kind in a common area, providing a platform for communities to collectively turn their kitchen and garden refuse into fertilizer.

“Your high level of commitment to take this project on is commendable.”

“We hope the participants, both adults and the youth, will keep records of the progress of this initiative and share them with others who may want to start it as well,” he said to SS14 Neighbourhood Watch interim president T. K. Lee, who is also a member of the Residents Committee (JKP Zone 1).

Adnan later witnessed the depositing of vegetables and cut grass into the bins by children from the neighbourhood, who are also participants of the project.
