SUBANG PARADE CLAIMS ICSC SILVER AWARD

Optimism as centre wins Award

The pride and joy of Subang Jaya, Subang Parade claimed the Silver Award from the International Council of Shopping Centres (ICSC) in the ‘Grand Opening, Expansion & Renovation’ category. Winners of the first ICSC Asia Shopping Centre Awards were announced on 15 October at the 2008 Asia Expo in Macau, China.

Competition was tough as a suburban shopping centre in modest Subang Jaya submitted their entry to the ICSC Asia Shopping Centre Awards, an organization which recognizes excellence within the region’s shopping centre industry and honours outstanding achievements in marketing and design/development of retail properties in Asia.

From February 2006 to February 2007, Subang Parade underwent an extensive interior renovation and an exterior refurbishment from 2007 to 2008, which also included the creation of new retail space to house an ICT centre, Digital One. The Centre stayed open the entire duration of the refurbishment, which took place only at night, and subsequently saw an increase in sales, footfall and tenant occupancy after the course of the renovations. Under the theme, “Changing to Serve You Better,” the renovation improved the experiences of shoppers, tenants and employees alike and has transformed Subang Parade into a vibrant, more exciting place to shop.

Subang Parade plans to build on this recent success amid expectation of optimism for an encouraging future ahead. The refurbishment was widely interpreted as the cornerstone of the next phase of Subang Parade in the industry, the entire project which started from 2004 to 2008 was to enhance the aesthetics and convenience of the shopping centre for their shoppers.

“October 15th is a great day for everybody in the company. We started the project in 2005 and now the vision has become reality. We envisaged an International standard shopping experience in Subang Parade and today it has come to fruition,” said Anthony Dylan, General Manager - Asset Management.

“This is the second and definitely not the last that our refurbishment has gained recognition,” Anthony said. In 2005, Subang Parade won third in the Public Toilet Design Competition (Shopping Complex Category) by the Ministry of Housing and Local Government. Subang Parade was also the only suburban Shopping Centre to win the award. Subang Parade is also the first shopping centre in Malaysia to have a fully carpeted floor on the top floor.

Subang Parade is also proud of tenants who have also acclaimed awards for their respective industries.
