Major Drug Bust by Subang Jaya Police

SUBANG JAYA, JANUARY 21: THE tail end of the Rabbit Year has turned out to be a boon for Subang Jaya police who scored a major "jackpot" with the seizure of 38.5kgs of ganja and the arrest of two suspects in SS12 on January 19.

Forty blocks of ganja worth RM90,000 on the street were seized in what started off as a routine check by two police officers from the Subang Jaya police station who spotted the suspects in two cars acting suspiciously in Wangsa Baiduri, SS12.

Subang Jaya OCPD ACP Yahaya Ramli said the officers approached the suspects and upon examination discovered the blocks of ganja stashed in bags.

"The two suspects aged 23 and 40 were arrested. We found 30 blocks of ganja in a Proton Wira and another 10 blocks in the Proton Iswara."

"The offence under Section 39(B) of the Dangerous Drugs Act carries the mandatory death sentence upon conviction," he said.

Yahaya said police were still investigating the case but suspect the duo were in the process of transfering the blocks when they were spotted.

"The 40-year-old suspect is a lorry driver with a record of involvement in drugs while the 23-year-old is a despatch boy who also has a record in car theft."

"The 40-year-old suspect also tested positive for drug abuse," he said.

Yahaya said Subang Jaya police seized RM1.8mil worth of drugs in 2011 compared to RM776,812 for the same period in 2010.

"We doubled our success in seizing drugs like heroine, ganja, ketamine and many other types in 2011 compared to the corresponding period in 2010."

"In 2011, we arrested 1,745 suspects and in 2010, 1,353 suspects were arrested. The biggest haul was syabu which topped the list of drugs seized," he added.

Yahaya urged the public to work with the police if they had information on drug abuse or trafficking happening in their neighbourhoods.
