Dragons Come Alive at Sunway Pyramid

SPRING is here! And it's the best time of the year to take a stroll around Sunway Pyramid's majestic concourse which is all decked with Cherry Blossom trees amongst tall mountains.

With Chinese New Year falling on Jan 23, shoppers certainly will not miss the huge golden dragon dominating the mountain landscape in the shopping mall. With its red gleaming eyes, the golden dragon stands 30 feet in height and emits smoke via its nostrils at certain hours of the day.

The mall launched its Lunar New Year theme this year with "Majestic Rising", referring to the grandeur rise of the Dragon at the mall's concourse area. The concourse set-up also features a waterfall, another major attraction at the mall.

"Dragons are believed to be associated with the weather and particularly water, so shoppers can take pleasure in an impressive waterfall at the concourse this Lunar New Year. The water from the waterfall creates a Pond of Fortune with 1,888 live goldfishes."

"Shoppers are welcome to throw coins into the pond for a healthy dose of blessings, especially since the element this year is water," HC Chan, chief executive officer of Sunway Pyramid said during the launch.

Residents of Rumah Caring Kajang who were the special guests for the launch were later treated to a sumptuous lunch right after they were given goodie bags and angpow for the New Year.

The event was launched by Minister of Housing and Local Government Dato Seri Chor Chee Heung and attended by Sunway Group corporate advisor Tan Sri Ramon Navaratnam, Sunway Group Property Investment Division managing director Dato' Ngeow Voon Yean and Sunway REIT chief executive officer Dato Jeffrey Ng Tiong Lip.

Shoppers will also enjoy many other attractions at the mall, including the Spring Flower Market at the Blue Concourse and festive red lights outside the mall once night falls.

The mall also rewards shoppers with Dragon "ang pau" packets for those who spend above RM150 and a limited edition thumdrive for shoppers who spend above RM800. Citibank cardholders are eligible with a minimum spend of RM100 and RM700 respectively.
