Happy New Year 2012 & Gong Xi Fa Cai!
I pray that this year will be a good year for us all. 2011 has passed by so quickly. I was only 29 when I started out as ADUN Subang Jaya in 2008 and today I am 33, have aged significantly and now a proud mommy of a 7 month old girl. 2011 has been most significant for me because of the birth of my firstborn Shay Adora. Juggling work and family is no easy feat. I must say that heading to work, site visits and meetings and running home in between to nurse my baby has been by far the most challenging experience as a working mom. I take my hat off to all working moms out there; I don’t know how you all do it managing not one, but a few kids for some of you!
The last one month of 2011 was a sad time for me. My mom-in-law passed away suddenly while she was out buying newspapers and it shocked the entire family. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the police and neighbours of USJ 6 who responded to the emergency. We are beneficiaries of a good community, one who cares and looks out for each other. Thank you to those who have sent flowers and condolences wishes, our family appreciates your thoughtfulness.
Within weeks, I lost a good friend in YB Edward Lee’s (ADUN Bukit Gasing) passing. A champion of the people’s rights. A loving, devoted father and husband. A friend who prioritised friends. Our loss. We will miss his service. I will miss him.
I hope 2012 will be a year of hope. We need to stay positive and hopeful. We cannot give in to disappointments and discouragement. I am excited about the coming months.
New office - Effective 1 January 2012, my service centre has moved to a bigger office at 113A (1st Floor) Jalan SS14/1, Subang Jaya with extended operating hours to better serve all our constituents. We will be operating 5 days a week (Monday to Friday) from 10am to 5pm and on Thursday nights 8pm to 10pm.
Back to basic – I also want MPSJ’s YDP Dato’ Asmawi to urgently look into restoring and improving basic facilities such as roads without potholes and collection of domestic waste and bulky waste. These basic facilities should be the determining factor in judging the performance of a local council – not fancy sounding ratings. As the state assemblyman for Subang Jaya, I will be focusing on pushing MPSJ and its councillors to meet these basic standards of service.
SS15 - I will also be looking into eradicating the rats menace in ss15 on a regular basis this year. Hopefully the business community will also take a proactive role in this. I have met the YDP of MPSJ and requested for collection of rubbish to be done twice a day in this commercial area. When this is done, the rats will have no food to feast through the night.
I have come to understand that MPSJ has also completed their proposal on turning the current community hall next to the morning market into a multi storey car park and an upgraded community hall. I have requested for this proposal to be put on open tender so that the community will benefit from the best deal. I will also insist that there will be no housing or commercial element in the proposal as the project should be solely to improve traffic and enhance recreational facilities.
For everyone celebrating the Chinese New Year at the end of this month, here’s wishing you a Gong Xi Fa Cai & for those travelling, have a safe journey and do not forget to inform the police that you will be away!
