It's Confirmed! DAP's “Iron Lady” to Contest in Kinrara

Seputeh MP to contest State Seat to Tip the Scales in Selangor

SUBANG JAYA: It's Confirmed! The Kinrara state-seat (part of which covers USJ) will see Seputeh MP Teresa Kok and incumbent and first-term state assemblyman Dr Kow Cheong Wei fight it out in the coming general election.

Ending months of speculation since the setting up of her Puchong Service Center in the Kinrara Business Center, Teresa said she would defend her parliamentary seat in Seputeh as well.

“I want to offer the people of Puchong an alternative voice. My track record over the years shows it,” she said in an interview.

On why she chose Selangor to contest a state seat, Teresa said, “In Selangor, we have 56 state seats of which only two are opposition.”

“We need more digits in the State Assembly to check the Selangor state government,” she said, adding that municipal councils also needed to be checked.

Teresa said development in Puchong has been rapid over the years and would ripple even wider based on the draft local plan.

“In this scenario, many people will be marginalised to accommodate the development scope proposed in the plan,” she said, adding that nowadays people wanted more green areas but the government keeps encroaching into them.

“I am willing to provide the voice for the people. I am not afraid to walk the extra mile for the people,” she stressed.

Ever since the setting up of her office in Kinrara, Teresa said many residents had come forward to raise their problems and grouses.

“Residents from Kampung Bersatu for example came to me to air their grievances.”

“For the USJ part of Kinrara, the biggest issue facing residents is the traffic jam along the Lebuhraya Damansara Puchong which starts from Puchong right through to Sunway and Kelana Jaya,” she said, questioning why people had to pay toll for this highway when all they faced are traffic crawls.

“I am a Member of Parliament. As such, if elected for the state seat in Kinrara, I would not confine myself to Kinrara but will also look at issues in surrounding areas in Puchong...and even Subang Jaya,” she added.

Guys...look out. This woman means business!
