Can You See the Traffic Light Post?

Road signage at junction blocks the view of motorists

A “well-hidden” traffic light post at the Persiaran Jengka-New Pantai Expressway underpass is posing a danger to motorists travelling along Persiaran Jengka from SS14-SS18 towards SS15.

Blocked entirely from the view of motorists by a huge road signage, the hidden traffic light is the cause of several accidents along this intersection and also several near misses .

A quick check by SJ Echo found the traffic light post on the left side of the junction fully hidden behind the signage.

Whenever both the traffic light posts turn red, only the one on the middle divider can be seen. The presence of another traffic light further ahead (under the NPE) which has turned green adds to the problem.

SS14 resident Eugene Lim who pointed out the danger said, “The signboard covers the traffic light on the left, thus leaving only the one on the right in view. Many drivers are misled by the lights, thinking that they would only be restricted from making a right turn.”

Lim also pointed out the danger of drivers misinterpreting the traffic lights from afar, rendering them unable to stop in time when they reached the intersection.

“Moreover, there will be cars coming from the right, thus there will be high chances of a collision between the two,” he adds.

He suggested that the signboard be relocated to a more strategic location.
