REPLACE OBSOLETE GUIDELINES ON G&G

Selangor Housing and Property Board guidelines on gated and guarded scheme should be revamped, says MPSJ councilor
THE Selangor Housing and Property Board guidelines on gated and guarded schemes put in place in 2006 should be revamped to provide more effectiveness to safeguard homes and safety of its occupants, says Subang Jaya Municipal Council member Rajiv Rishyakaran.
“The 2006 guidelines spelled out on G&G are obsolete and does not reflect the present needs of society.”
“It says you can block off roads from 12 midnight to 6am and does not allow perimeter fencing. And in order for people to implement this, they must have 100% support from all the residents in the affected area,” he said.
Rajiv described this is virtually impossible to get off the ground if one were to go by the book.
“The time 12 midnight to 6am doesn’t deter crime anymore. The guidelines don’t even allow for boom gates to be brought down and opened for visitors or residents when they want to pass through,” he added.
“Personally, I don’t think there should be a blanket NO to closing of roads,” he said, adding that residents groups who wanted to propose a G&G scheme in their area should first forward their proposal to MPSJ.
Rajiv said residents should not just go ahead and implement the G&G at their own whims and fancies.
“Proper procedures such as submission of application, study on traffic flow and other considerations need to be taken into account before you can put up your plan,” he said.
