SAFER HOMES DURING CNY

by
30 November 1999

DETERMINED to help make homes safer during the coming Chinese New Year festival, a group of residents together with the SS17 police distributed the police Balik Kampung forms to shoppers at the SS15 wet market early last Sunday morning.

The police led by Sub-Inspector Ariffin joined hands with the SS15 Neighbourhood Watch group and residents from USJ to distribute 400 forms to the early birds at the market.

Many of those approached admitted they had never heard of the program but readily said they would fill up the forms and hand them to the police before they left for their hometown for the Chinese New Year this weekend.

Some residents even filled their forms on the spot with assistance from the police.

The Balik Kampung campaign encourages residents to fill up details of when their house will be vacant while owners are away for their holidays. The police will in turn make visits to the house during the period to check on the property as part of their crime prevention rounds.

Each visit will be recorded with a visitation slip from the police left in the letter box of the home.
