FIRSTS OF SUBANG JAYA, MY FAVOURITES

It has been a horrible start to the new year of 2010. There have been so many deaths as well as some idiots running around hoping to incite disharmony. There are also many incidents which show that Malaysians take no nonsense from the evil intending maestros. We see the youths coming up with flowers, holding mature discussions and giving us hope.
Like Saya Anak Bangsa Malaysia would say, time to take our country back. I remain positive that when we continue to fight for justice, things would be alright.
I drove around Subang Jaya and saw things which made this article possible. I saw many firsts in Subang Jaya and thought that this would be a good way to remind people that Subang Jaya is a place of pride.
There are many firsts but here are some of my favourites.
THE WORLD’S TALLEST PENCIL
The Guinness Book of Records has Faber Castell’s 19.75 metre high pencil as the world’s tallest pencil. It is located at their office lobby at their premises in Taman Perindustrian near USJ3. This was unveiled in 2002
EXTERNAL RADIO CONTROL RACE TRACK
This is located in SS19, Subang Jaya. It is the only known purpose designed external racetrack for Remote Control Vehicles. The place is run by RC Planet and many fun races have been organized at the track. It is a true delight to find such a facility and this would further spur communities to come together for fun. I believe that this is the first facility in Malaysia. I am not sure when this was built but sources say in the early 2000s.
PIONEER TWINNING PROGRAM SPECIALIST
Metropolitan College prides herself as being the pioneer in twinning programs offered in Malaysia. Many students have benefitted from this innovative education option. They have been in existence, I am told since 1987.
FIRST SHOPPING CENTRE
The first shopping centre in Subang Jaya is of course one which all Subang Jayans would easily connect with. Subang Parade. Subang Parade was opened in 1988 and at that time, it was known throughout Malaysia as the longest shopping centre in South East Asia. While today, she no longer holds the title, Subang Parade is still a strong favourite.
It is quite interesting I would say to have so many firsts in Subang Jaya when many other places in Klang Valley would not have as many. There are many more but I have shared only my favourites.
In the midst of chaos, there would always be humility and rage. In the midst of development, there would always be destruction of peace. In any case, those that destroy also have the power to protect. The difference is choice. What would you choose to do today?
Have we looked at ourselves in the mirror today? Do we like what we see?
HAPPY CHINESE NEW YEAR EVERYONE!
