Touch 'n Go Battle of the Bands 2009 for Charity

Supporting and Uniting Youth & Music for the Community

College students and other young adults in the Klang Valley will have the opportunity to showcase their musical talent in the Touch ‘n Go Battle of the Bands 2009.

This event is expected to rock the town with an exciting line up of celebrity judges, bringing pure excitement to youths at the Grand Finale on December 12, 2009.

The event is part of Touch ‘n Go’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme and is aptly themed “Touch ‘n Go Supporting and Uniting Youth & Music for the Community”.

“Touch ‘n Go is organising the Battle of the Bands 2009 to unleash and uncover the ability and creativity of our youth. At the same time we intend to create awareness and support the underprivileged in our community,”  TNGSB Managing Director, Hasni Zarina Mohamed Khan said.

Such events, she said, can provide the setting to nurture and cultivate the talent and potential in the younger generation for the future benefit of our society, economy and nation.

As a kick-off programme, this event is being organised to target youth in the Subang Jaya, Sunway and USJ vicinities as this area has been earmarked as the first-ever “Touch ‘ n Go Zone”. Touch ‘n Go is taking the initiative to educate and create a cashless society in this area in line with the lifestyle of Life In The Fast Lane. There is significant growth in Touch ‘n Go’s cross sector business as apart from toll-highways, the card can be used for public transport, theme parks, parking and retail.

This event is also an avenue to cultivate and encourage musically talented youth to compete healthily and share their winnings with six identified non-profit organisations, which form part of the same community. The non-profit
organisations are the Children’s Wish Society of Malaysia; Pertubuhan Rumah Amal Cahaya Tengku Ampuan Rahimah (RACTAR); Women’s Aid Organisation of Malaysia; Majlis Kanser Nasional (MAKNA);  Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA); Progressive Animal Welfare Society (PAWS).

At the Grand Finale, the event is set to contribute a total of RM20,000.00 to the six (6) charity organisations that are represented by the Top Six (6) Bands.
The Touch ‘n Go Battle of the Bands 2009 is divided into three stages - Recruitment, Audition and Finale.
Recruitment
TNGSB will hold roadshows in Bandar Sunway and Subang Jaya to attract and recruit participants from institutions of higher learning such as Taylor’s College, Sunway College, Monash University Sunway, Inti College and Metropolitan College as well as from music schools, music studios and Touch ‘n Go merchants in the vicinity.
Audition
Celebrity judges will then shortlist six participating bands for the Finale through submission of pre-recorded tracks and actual audition. The confirmed celebrity judges at press time include Sasi the Don, Alda Tan (Malaysian
Music Producer and celebrity guitarist) together with Mr. Jason Ko, CEO of MYC! and Founder of the Inter-College Battle of the Bands.
Finale
Finally, the shortlisted bands will perform and ‘battle it out’ at the ‘Touch ‘n Go/Battle of the Bands 2009 Grand Finale for the top three places on 12 December 2009 at Sunway Pyramid Orange Entrance Piazza. During the Battle of the Bands 2009 Grand Finale, invited celebrity bands will kick start the event with band performances as part of a community music festival. Featured in the festival will also be Touch & Go merchants who will provide a ‘fanfare community’ feel.

A micro site (internet portal) dedicated to this cause has been set-up as a communication platform for information of the event. The public will also have the opportunity to vote for their favourite bands via www.lifeinthefastlane.com.my from 19 November 2009 onwards. Consumers who use their Touch ‘n Go cards in merchants in the Subang area
will also get to accumulate points which can be used to snowball points for their favourite band & charity. The voting polls will only be accessible from 2 December, 2009 onwards. For more details on the event, log on to www.BOBasia.org
