SPECIAL REPORT: SUBANG PARADE

Subang Parade centre manager Chay Siew Mun shared with us what the shopping complex has done to ensure the safety and security of its shoppers. According to Chay, cars parked overnight at Subang Parade will have their details recorded.
“If we find that the car is parked there more than three nights, a police report is lodged with a view that that vehicle may be a stolen vehicle or is parked there to avoid repossession.”
“We also hope that car owners will take responsibility of their vehicles when parked in our complex. Many forget to lock their vehicles or leave their car keys in the vehicle. This is happening daily,” he said.
1.     What is the number of parking bays you have at this point at your property?
We have 1,314 parking bays in Subang Parade.
2.    What is the current staff force dedicated to ensure the maintenance, security and general well-being of car parks in your property?
We have five personnel patrolling our car parks. Three of them are stationed at the basement level car park; one personnel at the elevated car park; and one personnel at the outdoor car park. We also have cashiers at our payment booths and personnel from the maintenance department moving around all the time.
3.    What security features have you installed ie how many CCTVs, how many people man the CCTVs monitors round-the-clock, how many guards patrol your parking bay areas?
At our outdoor car park, we have 12 CCTV cameras, 3 CCTV cameras at the elevated car park, and in the basement, we have 32 cameras with the monitors being watched round-the-clock. The footage recorded is of standard high resolution for TV.

4.    Please do enlighten us on the extent to which your parking bays are lit and if there are areas which need lighting up very soon.
All areas are lit with an illumination level of between 50 to 150 lux. All fluorescent tubes are changed yearly and our car parks are washed twice a month.
5.    Many residents complain of poor ventilation in basement car parks. Is anything being done to correct the poor flow of air which results in people feeling like they are walking in a sauna when they step out of their car?
We have adequate natural air ventilation at the entrance and elevated car park, including our basement car park. There are also ventilation fans at those areas nearer to the retaining walls.
6.    There are parking facilities in hypermarkets which are outdoor and extend quite a distance from the main building. Are measures being taken to ensure shoppers are safe when they walk to and from the building?
There are CCTV cameras place at out outdoor areas and we have a guard on patrol during our operating hours.
