SPECIAL REPORT: MYDIN HYPERMARKET USJ1

Mydin Hypermarket in USJ1 has one of the biggest parking lots for a hypermarket in Subang Jaya. We caught up with Mydin’s complex executive Ismuni Latip to find out what’s being done to ensure the safety of shoppers in both their covered and open air car park.

1.    What is the number of parking bays you have at this point at your property?
We have 1560 parking bays at Mydin USJ1.
2.    What is the current staff force dedicated to ensure the maintenance, security and general well-being of car parks in your property?
We have a total of 17 personnel with various functions (5 security; 5 maintenance; 5 trolley boys; 2 cleaners)
3.     What security features have you installed ie how many CCTVs, how many people man the CCTVs monitors round-the-clock, how many guards patrol your parking bay areas?
We have 11 CCTVs to cover both the covered and open car park. The CCTV is monitored round-the-clock by one security personnel all the time. Five guards stand guard at the vehicle parking area while another guard is dedicated to watching over the motorcycle parking area. We have one supervisor/leader on the patrol all the time.

4.    Please do enlighten us on the extent to which your parking bays are lit and if there are areas which need lighting up very soon.
All areas at the car park are well lit even during daytime. Both sides along the perimeter of the open car park are lighted with rows of spotlights to maintain brightness when it gets dark. The covered walkway in the middle of the open air car park is also lit.
5.    Many residents complain of poor ventilation in basement car parks. Is anything being done to correct the poor flow of air which results in people feeling like they are walking in a sauna when they step out of their car?
We do not have this problem as our covered parking we do not have basement parking. Our covered parking lot is well ventilated.
6.    There are parking facilities in hypermarkets which are outdoor and extend quite a distance from the main building. Are measures being taken to ensure shoppers are safe when they walk to and from the building?
Yes. Guards are placed there day and night to ensure customer’s safety. Our covered walkway stretches out from the main building to the open parking which is lit up. We also have personnel with umbrellas who will accompany customers to their cars during rainy days.
