Safer Shopping at Carrefour

Hypermarket beefs up security measures to deter car break-ins
SHOPPERS frequenting Carrefour in SS16 will soon feel safer when parking their vehicles in both the basement and multi-storey car park.
More security measures will be installed at the hypermarket to deter untoward incidences but that doesn’t mean car owners can start leaving their valuables in their vehicles.
According to Carrefour store director Antoine Gerrier, security is a big concern to the store.
“Security is a big concern to us inside the hypermarket as well as in the car park.”
“We are doing a lot of things but obviously this is not enough,” he said, in response to a recent vehicle break-in.
Antoine said the management would set up additional cameras at the parking bays and have more personnel patrolling the area.
“We will have all these measures operational in 2 weeks (by November 10). More lights will also be installed to make our car parks brighter,” he told SJ Echo after meeting the complainant, Robert Chan of SJ Alert who lost a laptop and two cameras when his vehicle was broken into at Carrefour.
Antoine said guards would be placed at the entrance to the multi-storey car park to stop motorcyclists from entering, since there were no parking bays for the motorcycles.
“Motorcyclists will be directed to the basement car park where there are parking bays. They will not be allowed to enter the multi-storey car park. Only our security guards on motorcycles will be moving around there,” he added.
