EXCLUSIVE!! Menteri Besar Hosts Discussion on Taman Subang Ria

Proposed Development to go through Public Hearing if formally submitted

ALL parties concerned with the fate of Taman Subang Ria got a chance to air their stand and grievances with Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim recently.
Khalid who chaired the Selangor Economic Council meeting last Thursday (October 29) met up with representatives from the Subang Jaya Residents Association, officials from MPSJ and Sime Darby Properties in an informal discussion on the proposed development of Taman Subang Ria, which has stirred a lot of support as well as objections from various quarters.
ADUN Subang Jaya Hannah Yeoh who also attended the meeting said no decision was made by Khalid on the matter as the meet-up was to informally hear from all parties.
"There is no necessity for MPSJ to act on it as there has been no official submission of plans for development."
"The decision to allow or disallow any development will have to go to MPSJ someday when a formal application from Sime Darby Properties is submitted," she said, adding that the meeting was to hear the wishes and sentiments of the residents group.
Hannah said the meeting was not a hearing.
"It was only a discussion mainly to ascertain how the land title landed in Sime Darby Properties' hand and how it became private land," she added.
Hannah however added that if any proposed development was submitted, it would have to go through the whole process of a public hearing again.
She also said Khalid had expressed his plan to meet more residents to seek their opinion.
Over the past few months, the issue of whether to allow part of Taman Subang Ria to be developed into a high-end residential project and the bigger remaining portion to be converted into a public park has resulted in a split in opinions within the community.
While one group stubbornly objects to allow even a blade of grass to be touched, the other group has expressed a willingness to come to a win-win plan.
